16th Oct 17

Summary —

The views of the dental industry have been sought on amendments to AS/NZS4157-2014: Reprocessing of reusable medical devices in health service organisations that address water quality requirements.

Key Issues For The Dental Industry —

In order to ensure that standards for the design, performance and operation of dental products reflect contemporary practice, the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) encourages its members to comment on drafts for new Australian Standards or amendments to existing documents.  It is in this context that ADIA member businesses are encouraged to review draft amendments to AS/NZS4187-2014: Reprocessing of reusable medical devices in health service organisations. which has been issued for public comment.

The objective of this Standard is to ensure that health service organisations correctly clean, disinfect and sterilize reusable medical devices prior to, and between, patient uses in order to produce reusable medical devices that are able to be used safely without risk of transmission of infectious agents.

The proposed standard sets out amended requirements on water quality supplied to, and used by, sterilisation equipment.  The standard also sets out requirements for steam quality tests that shall be performed upon installation or relocation of large steam sterilisers or if a significant change to the steam supply system occurred.

ADIA member businesses are encouraged to download the amendment with a view to providing comment:
